About
Ghaziabad : An
industrial city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is located about
1.5 km East of the Hindon river at Latitude 28° 40' North and Longitude 77°
25' East. It is 19 km East of Delhi and 46 km South-West of Meerut. The city
houses the headquarters of the Ghaziabad district.
The city gets its name from the founder Ghazi-ud-din, who called it
Ghaziuddinnagar after himself. Later the name was shortened to Ghaziabad. It
is also the home to Advanced Level Telecommunication Training Centre (ALTTC).
It is a large industrial city well-connected by roads and railways. It has
industries that manufacture railway coaches, diesel engines, bicycles,
tapestries, glassware, pottery, paint and varnish, heavy chains etc.
Recently a number of malls and multiplexes have come up in the city and the
roads are being improved by construction and widening of flyovers. These
developments have also led to it being featured in Newsweek International as
one of the 10 most dynamic cities of the world for 2006

Places of Interest in Delhi
Red
Fort : Red Fort - derived from a Hindi word Lal which means red and
Quila which means fort. It is laid out along the river Yamuna as an
irregular octagon, surrounded by a wall of about 2.4 kms in circumference
and is built of red sandstone. Shah Jahan started construction of the
massive fort in 1638 and it was completed in 1648. The fort has two main
entrances, the Delhi Gate and the Lahori Gate, which faces the famed Chandni
Chowk market. The fort has Diwan - e - Am (hall for public audience); Diwan
- e - Khas (hall for private audience); Rang Mahal (a water-cooled apartment
of royal ladies); Pearl mosque, built of white marble.
India Gate
In the memory of 90,000 soldiers of the Indian army killed during First
world war, a dominating stone structure was built at the east end of the
Rajpat. The names of these soldiers are inscribed on the stone of the 42
metre high triumphal arch which stand on a base of Bharatpur stone and rises
in stages. It was designed by Edward Lutyens and took 10 years to complete.
Its foundation stone was laid on 10th February 1921 by the Duke of
Connaught. There is a Amar Jawan Jyoti under the Arch to commemorate the
'Indian Armed Forces' losses in the Indo Pakistan War of 1971. This simple
monument is helmet on the built of a rifle surrounded by 4 eternal flames.
National Shrines: On the bank of Yamuna are National shrines raised
in the memory of national leaders.
Raj Ghat
This simple square platform of black marble on the banks of the river Yamuna
marks the place where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated. His last words "Hey Ram"
are inscribed on this platform which is surrounded by a serene garden.

Lodi Garden
It is at Lodi Road, 5 Km south of Connaught place, 1 Km to the south of
the Purana Qila. It is set in the heart of the one of the best residential
districts of Delhi. The garden is now modified as a Park. The garden
contains the mellow stone tombs of the Lodi rulers of the 15th and 16th
century. In the middle of the garden facing the East entrance from Max
Muller Road is Bara Gumbad (Big Dome) the mosque built in 1494. A few meter
north of the Bara Gumbad is the Sheesh Gumbad (Glass Dome) built on a raised
incline with glazed blue tiles, painted floral designs and Koranic
inscriptions, a typical Lodi architecture.
The tomb of Mohammad Shah (1450), the third Sayyid ruler is an octagonal
plan with eaves and lotus patterns on the ceiling. The Sikander Lodi's tomb,
surrounded by a garden, at the corner of the park, was built by his son in
1517 and is also an octagonal plan decorated with Hindu motifs. The Mughals
in later period innovated the structure to a double dome.
The Athpula (Bridge of Eight Piers) is built in the 16th century by Nawab
Bahadur, a nobleman at Akbar's court. It is used to enter the garden from
north east .
Mughal Garden
Mughal Garden is located to the west of Rashtrapathi Bhavan. This
elegant garden was designed by Lutynes. The garden which occupies an area of
13 acres, is divided into three sections (rectangular, long and circular
gardens) and is a blend of the formal Mughal style with the design of a
British Garden. The garden with Mughal style canals, fountains and terraces
at different levels with flowering shrubs and Western style lawns, hedges
and flower beds is a visual treat especially during the blossoming season.
The garden grows a variety of trees and flowers like roses, marigold,
bougainvillea, sweet william, viscaria etc among many others.
Buddha Jayanti park built to commemorate 2500 the anniversary of the
birth, enlightment and parinirvana of the great son of India - Gautam
Buddha is an extensive garden.
Jantar Mantar
This Unique observatory was built by the Rajput King Sawai Jai Singh I in
1724. It was believed to have been built with machinery instruments for
observing the movement of stars and planet. The amazing collection of large
masonry instruments includes the Samrat Yantra and the Jai Prakash Yantra.
Pragati Maidan
It is a massive complex with well laidout roads, fountains, garden,
lawns and eating joints. It is the venue of the annual India International
Trade fair and other International/National Trade Fair. One of the
attractions of the complex is APPU GHAR, based on the Disneyland concept in
several forms of entertainment and games to play. Located near Delhi Zoo and
ITO.
Badkal Lake
Badkal lakeis situated in Faridabad which is just 20 minutes drive from
South Delhi. This natural lake surrounded by small hills is an ideal place
for picnic. Boating facilities are also available.
Rashtrapati Bhavan
Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of the President of India, is
located at the west end of the 2 1/2km long Rajpath (King's path), a
tree-lined avenue flanked by lawns with orderly flowerbeds and clipped
hedges, with the India gate at the opposite end. Designed by Sir Edwin L.
Lutyens and completed in 1929, this palatial building on the Raisina hill
was formerly the Viceregal Lodge (Viceroy's House), during the British rule.
Being
a cosmopolitan city, Delhi has very flourishing lifestyles. Though you
will not find many people on roads after 12 P.M., discotheques are full of
nocturnal animals. Delhi has good number of world class Discotheques with
great ambience and acoustics. In case you want to party, there are a

known for its varied foods from state that you can find in Delhi, from

find good one in each of the markets or malls of Delhi and around.
Try Q'ba and TGIF at Connaught place or move to Bacchus at Basant Lok
Market. If you want a quite place then go for 'Days of The Raj' at
